Metal Injection Molding
Metal Injection Molding (MIM) also known as Powder Injection Molding (PIM) is
a process similar to plastic injection molding that uses powder metal to make
manufactured metal parts. Developed in the 1980's MIM enables much more
efficient creation of objects. These products have the versatility of plastic
injection molding along with the strength of machined or pressed metal parts.
This is the reason that MIM products are used in a variety of industries
including the automotive, aerospace, communications, and medical fields.
Metal Injection Molding produces a finished product in only five steps. After
these steps are completed no further machining is needed. This causes MIM to be
more time and cost efficient than other methods of making similar
products.
